The Finishing Trades Institute of BC announces new Director of Training
June 29, 2011

The Finishing Trades Institute of BC would like to extend a warm welcome to David Holmes who has recently taken over the position of Director of Training.

In this role, he will be responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the training centre, providing direction and support for staff and instructors, and taking on the duties that help ensure the FTI BC continues to provide the top finishing trades training available in the province.

Dave joins the FTI with many years of experience as a Red Seal-Trades Qualified Journeyperson, an administrator, and as a 14-year member of the FTI Board of Trustees.

Earlier in his career, he worked as a commercial and industrial painter and, after 14 years on the tools, he moved to the District Council 38 office to take on managerial roles. This eventually culminated into his role as DC38 Business Manager and FTI Chairperson, positions he held from 2005 until 2009. During this time, the FTI underwent a rebuilding and refocusing phase.

“While no one can ever replace our previous Director of Training, Graham Young,” said Patrick Byrne, chairperson of the FTI Joint Trade Society. “This position needs to be filled with someone who possesses the same commitment and passion that Graham had. Having worked alongside Dave Holmes for the past 14 years I can attest that Dave is such an individual.”

“I have every confidence that Dave will continue to build and improve upon the administrative foundation that Graham so ably constructed,” Byrne said.
